So going through my credit card statement today I saw a payment to MICROSOFT ONLINE SVCS HTTP://BILL.M IE for £39.99. I couldn’t remember making this purchase and the strange web URL looked a bit iffy. So I looked on Google and saw lots of people talking about a scam. ‘Not again’ I thought, having had my card screwed for £400 back in February.
However, I’ve realised what it’s for now - the XBOX Live subscription renewal. Presumably most people forget that they entered the information into their own (or their kid’s) xbox a year ago so think it’s a con. Fear not, it isn’t, it’s helping keep somebody quiet…
UPDATE - February 2007!
So this blog entry is one of the most popular ever. To summarise the numerous threads below for new readers finding this in Google, we now have some extra details available:
a) The charge could also be for MS Live Messaging - mobile text credits (not just Xbox Live - ring any bells?)
b) The freephone number at Microsoft for a helpful person is 0800 587 1102.
UPDATE - March 2007!
Read my new entry on Xbox Live subscription hacking denials from Microsoft.
June 2007 - noticed that the billing description has been changed to BILL.MS.NET

Exactly the same thing happened to Flyingpops, she got it cancelled by the bank and it turned out to be a renewal of her
brothers one!
July 13th, 2006 at 10:08 pm
But it is sort of a scam in a way…it’s like they WANT you to forget what you’ve signed up for…
July 26th, 2006 at 5:07 am
I got THREE charges from that web site and I don’t own an XBox!
July 26th, 2006 at 4:16 pm
Looks like some people are using stolen card details to pay for xbox live access as there are a lot of people coming to this page with a similar complaint.
August 9th, 2006 at 9:57 am
Am trying to cancel subscription! Didn’t realise it was automatic renewal! the card they used was an old one but it still went through I thought it would have rejected it.
August 9th, 2006 at 12:29 pm
Dunno why they didn’t put a reference of “XBOX LIVE”, and why didn’t the bank know what was going on? They just refunded the money! Microsoft obviously have too much cash…!
August 9th, 2006 at 2:04 pm
Number to cancell subscription is 0800 587 1102 (freephone) long wait but helpfull when reached someone! Thanks for this web site, wouldn,t have known what what entry on bill was otherwise, I was horrified when i saw it.
August 9th, 2006 at 2:13 pm
yes, it’s a shame microsoft don’t have something on this subject and that it takes me to post a blog!
August 15th, 2006 at 6:37 pm
What’s with the spelllling Mandy?
August 23rd, 2006 at 4:46 pm
Mandy,
I let my account expire with an old credit card number and they couldn’t charge me for the renewal. They sent that account to a collections agency, even though I didnt want it AND I have a second active account under my name.
August 23rd, 2006 at 5:01 pm
It is strange, I wasn´t aware that anybody had signed up for automatic renewal, that is to say, if you cancel your card that is surely the end of it? Sending it to a collections agency sounds a bit out of order, why not send you a letter first detailing their inability to renew.
August 26th, 2006 at 3:29 pm
Errrr, can anybody tell me how i started getting this charge,as i’m clueless????????and thay have been taking £6.99 for two mths now, errrrr what for?????
August 26th, 2006 at 4:03 pm
Best give them a call on 0800 587 1102 to verify that it’s coming from them but sounds like it could be credit card fraud to me.
August 30th, 2006 at 4:36 pm
I have got this fishy direct debit which I did unsubscribe to but still appears on my statements
£6.99 for four months now, what am I paying for? and why? anybody got an answer and how to stop it? please!
August 30th, 2006 at 5:02 pm
You need to call Xbox on the 0800 number above Maurice, this sounds like the monthly xbox live subscription fee.
September 1st, 2006 at 5:30 pm

September 24th, 2006 at 12:21 am
noticed £39.99 added to my credit card statement, I don’t have an x-box so why are they taking it?
October 2nd, 2006 at 2:12 pm
I spent 45 mins waiting in a queue on the telephone to cancel my xbox live subscription last month.
When I finally got though, the guy on the other end went to some lengths explaining the two options I had- either cancelling it straight away today (meaning I would lose the months membership that I had paid for when it came out of my account two days previous) or he could set it to cancel automatically when my subscription ran out at the end of the month.
I asked him to cancel it straight away as I don’t even use it.
Have looked at my bank statement today and they’ve taken another month’s subscription!!!
October 2nd, 2006 at 2:21 pm
There’s been a lot of activity on this page in the last two months, I think I’ll be posting a review to summarise the various complaints about fraud and long call times.
October 11th, 2006 at 12:30 pm

November 14th, 2006 at 7:22 am
Hey all like you guys I randomly started seeing charges for $6.99 and $14.99 a month from MS SVCS then I figure out what it was. I had been purchasing some of those damn xbox live point to by arcade games on my 360, might wanna ask yourselves if you’ve bought any extra content on your 360 lately

November 21st, 2006 at 1:09 pm
I also got my credit card charged with 158.99 SEK ( almost = 19 USD) which I did not recognise. After some research the explanation is a yearly fee for Hotmail Plus.
November 25th, 2006 at 12:50 pm
Has anyone tried to cancel this #39.99 payments? I called up my bank, who said they could not stop Xbox taking money of my card (I don’t own an xbox either). Anyone know what to do??

Further on this, I noticed a couple of charges from Microsoft Online SVCS HTTP://BILL.M Irl on my credit card also and phoned 0800 587 1102 to investigate, as I don’t even own an xbox. The operator was very helpful and in fact found that the charge was for MS Live Messaging - mobile text credits, which I DO recall I purchased!
February 13th, 2007 at 12:36 pm
Interesting comment PG - I may make an update to the main entry as this could trigger people’s memories quite quickly too
February 13th, 2007 at 5:10 pm
well, if it wasnt for this web site Microsoft would have got £39.99 out of me for nothing!
Saw the entry on my credit card and knew we were not getting the service. The bank were of no use - just said ‘it is guaranteed that we pay’ - gave me phone number that was a fax!
saw your website and used the number that was on it and in 3 minutes it was cancelled with the promise of a refund. Thanks!
February 25th, 2007 at 9:06 am
I’ve had this charge twice now. 1st last year, which I managed to claim back from my CC issuer (Barclaycard)2nd time 31st Jan. 39.99 GBP Microsoft Online Svcs, Http://Bill.M I’ve NEVER owned an xbox, never used MS live messaging, or and MS subscription products! this time I’m working overseas so it’s difficult to do anything about it. But I will!!
February 27th, 2007 at 8:15 am
I’ve just had a charge for £14.99 taken by ‘Microsft Online SVCS’. I queried it with my bank (Lloydstsb) and they said I must have authorised it. I did an internet search and found this forum and used the 0800 587 1102 number. They said that as I didnt have an account with them, they couldn’t have taken the payment. Then I contacted Microsoft UK and they said the same. The bank are now ‘looking into the matter’, but dont hold out much hope of a refund - Nigel. (sorry folks but I’ve never heard of an xbox until yesterday and still dont know what it is!!)
February 27th, 2007 at 10:03 am
I’m wondering how much of this is down to stolen credit card details, quite a few people without xboxs being charged.
February 28th, 2007 at 4:34 pm
at first delighted to have found this info as i’ve been charged 2 x 6.99 so far, but using the no. provided here all i get is an obviusly offshore call centre that cant help me without the XBox serial number…which I dont own! can anyone help?
February 28th, 2007 at 6:22 pm
I’ve asked the folks at Xbox to review this blog entry and give some kind of official guidance ‘Support Ticket Number:1030571204′ fingers crossed everybody.
March 1st, 2007 at 2:24 pm
I wish to cancel this subscription with immediate effect.
March 1st, 2007 at 2:25 pm
If I don’t get this subscription cancelled and stop having £6.99 charged to my account I am going to go to the police immediately and get this investigated.
March 1st, 2007 at 4:40 pm
Well ‘P Keegan’ I suggest you tell Microsoft that then… have you even contacted Microsoft yet?
March 1st, 2007 at 6:36 pm
A quality response to Ticket Number:1030571204 from Microsoft’s intelligent staff when I asked them to visit this blog posting:
Thank you for your email. In order to respond effectively to your email we need to investigate further. Therefore please contact the Xbox Customer Support team on the following phone numbers.
Best regards,

Assistance by phone:
0800 587 1102
Or +44 20 7365 9792 from a mobile phone
So I guess that’s it then… Microsoft just don’t want to help anybody figure out why they’re getting billed.
March 9th, 2007 at 10:19 pm
My son borrowed my card to pay for One Month Live Membership in one week my credit card bill has various payments for £42-50. He swore he never agreed or downloaded any thing else. Statement shows Microsoft online SVCS HTTP://BILL.M
Any help would be appreciated.
Many thanks..
March 10th, 2007 at 2:43 pm
Angry mum? Shouldn’t that be VERY angry mum?
You need to call up Microsoft with the membership number for the Xbox live account… tel number as above. If your son’s clever enough to set it up he should be clever enough to find that number for you.
March 14th, 2007 at 6:16 am
I was charged on my VISA $119.43 on 3/12/2007 and I do no recognize any transaction of this nature. Please email me the detail of this charge.
March 14th, 2007 at 9:01 am
How should we know Robert? What’s with people not reading this entry properly?
March 14th, 2007 at 9:02 pm
have contacted my card issuer & they’re very helpful. Have managed to get one of the £6.99 refunded, but then Microsoft have taken another one in March…looks like this’ll keep happening monthly. At the mo, the transactions are “in dispute”…..will keep you posted.
March 15th, 2007 at 12:25 pm
I have two £4.99 amounts going out from credit card each month. Rang 0800 587 1102, phone answered immedately, very helpful man told me it was due to two accounts being set up, possibly a change in account name over the last couple of months. When I asked could one be cancelled, I was told no problem, money would be refunded, but better check with my son first, because if I cancel the wrong one my son would be really mad!
Speaking to son tonight. Thanks for link Matt.
March 26th, 2007 at 3:54 pm
A very good friend of mine told me how to cancel this subscription. After googling “cancel subscription to msn games” he found this site:

April 2nd, 2007 at 12:46 pm
Just noticed on my credit card today 3 payments of £6.99 from microsoft, they were from a subscription to a game which i took out a one month subscription on, when i rang them to explain they said it automatically renews every month unless you cancel it and its in the terms & conditions so there will be no refund of the payments, rang my cc company and they are going to look into the matter. Why pay for something you never agreed to?? Its not like they need the money.
April 16th, 2007 at 1:12 pm
the number above is helpfull.i found 6.99 going out of my account each month .rang microsoft up and got watever bogus account they set up stopped and all money refunded.try the number but you also need deatails of your card account to verify who you are.good luck
April 19th, 2007 at 8:47 am
Don’t forget (as I did) that this payment description is also used for the annual subsciption to Hotmail Plus!
April 20th, 2007 at 1:50 pm
I have had the £40 come off my account and onto my credit card. Have called the number got through stright away and they have refunded it without a problem. Well done microsoft.

April 30th, 2007 at 1:27 pm
I have also had £4.99 withdrawn from my bank account. I do not even own an xbox any more, I went to my bank to try and solve this issue and they said I couldn’t. I told them I will cancel the card then and they said it won’t matter they will still take the money off me.
So what am I supposed to do? I have not gave them permision to keep taking money out of my bank!
No wonder Bill Gates is so rich!
May 4th, 2007 at 12:40 pm

Hi,
I have traced back six years on my Husband’s credit card and found a ‘Microsoft Internet Svcs’ charge of £19.99 annually in May. I was all set to threaten to sue when I discovered it was for Hotmail upgrade which was legitimate.

May 5th, 2007 at 5:00 pm
MY CREDIT CARD STATEMENT IS SHOWING THAT MICROSOFT ONLINE SVCS HAS TAKEN £6.99 FOUR(4) TIMES.CAN YOU PL. LET ME KNOW WHAT IS THIS FOR.THE PAYMENT HAS GONE ON 19 FEB.,21FEB.,19 MAR. AND 21MAR.
THANKS.
May 8th, 2007 at 4:34 pm
Have just queried this at Microsoft on 0800 587 1102 and was told it was for the new Windows Live OneCare subscription which I took on my laptop.
May 8th, 2007 at 9:43 pm
so far Lloyds TSB (card issuer) has been quite “helpful” at least they are refunding, but I have to keep phoning them every time the debits appear. Don,t understand why they cant just ban future transactions…phoned the above freephone and got passed from pillar to post. eventually spoke to a woman who agreed to cancel whatever it is I’m paying for (no XBox no anything) AFTER 8th May (giving them chance to take just one more £6.99 for something I dont have) fingers crossed….
May 9th, 2007 at 11:50 pm
Well it happened to me too. This must be a sort of scam. I got Halo 2 to my birthday with a 3 month free trial. Well i am in the army doing my time for the country for 10£ a day so I forgot all about it and thought that after the three months I would just lose “live”, but here I am 40£ shorter.
Well, Microsoft congratulation you hustled me.
May 17th, 2007 at 3:21 pm
Thanks, happened to me. Saw the entry in my bill and had no idea what it was! Googled it and got this page.
It is not a scam people. At least in the case of XBOX Live - they specifically state that your service will be automatically renewed at the end of each term until you cancel.
May 19th, 2007 at 6:54 pm
I DO NOT WANT TO PAY ANY THING.PLEASE STOP TAKING OUT MONEY FROM MY CREDIT CARD.I DONT WANT ANY SERVICES FROM YOU.THANKS !
May 30th, 2007 at 11:13 am
message to JAY….next time you’re on this site, please read the other entries! we’re all in the same boat here and are struggling to either get refunds for ourselves or an explanation of the charges..
May 30th, 2007 at 11:39 am
I last posted here on 10th March 2007. I allowed my son to purchase £4.99 for 1 month xbox live. By the time i got my Credit Card statement i was over my limit and fee added.
Microsoft had been taking various payments sometimes a couple daily!
Contacting Microsoft they said it was for xbox points which we had requested. I told them my son hadn’t asked for Microsoft points and when i pushed them further they admitted none had been used.
Told them i had seen on Internet and Media about Xbox hackers for microsoft points.
They refused to refund any payments so i asked them to cancel the monthly subscription and remove my credit card details.
Next couple of weeks Capital One contacted me and said Microsoft where applying for various funds from my account and had i gave permission. I said no and they told me they couldn’t stop my card but could block it.
Things were fine for a few weeks then i received my credit card statement and Microsoft are at it again for £40 approx. this month. Put me over my limit again and fee charged.
I contacted Capital One and asked what had happened with block and how come Microsoft took money again when they were aware of problem.
Manager told me I should have cancelled my card not blocked it as Microsoft could still take payments. My problem was with Merchant. Told them i was advised i couldn’t cancel card, etc., and who cancel block. They told me the information they could give me about my account is limited. If i have a problem to contact the Merchant. Told them i was very cross and what about my credit rating showing overlimit, etc and why couldn’t they give me any straight answers.
Microsoft won’t help they say i requested Microsoft points when i know i didn’t and they have no request on file to stop monthly xbox live payments.
Sorry for the long post but i feel i am being passed around and just want my money back. I would appreciate any help. Thanks.
May 30th, 2007 at 11:50 am
Sounds like a job for Watch Dog Angry Mum. I did email them this blog thread once as I think they could get a whole show out of it but I didn’t get a reply!
May 30th, 2007 at 12:32 pm
I don’t know why everyone is getting so stressed. I called the helpline and got through within minutes, they then explained what the charge was for. It was a legitimate charge that my Hubby had forgotten about but was still a service he was using four years on. Anyway, we decided to cancel it there and then and it was stopped immediately.
Dozey.
May 30th, 2007 at 1:22 pm
Would YOU be stressed if some just took your money from your credit card for purchases you didn’t ask for?
I have called the helpline. They said payments are for points.
I DIDN’T ASK OR USE THESE POINTS. (Please also read postings - Hackers on xbox live for microsoft points)
They didn’t take my details off the system as requested and have not refunded payments taken.
I am a single parent not by choice and cannot work due to illness which i had long before my divorce.
So money taken from my account and fees added this way IS A BIG DEAL!!!
Every penny counts, i still have bills to pay and children to buy things for!
May 30th, 2007 at 10:41 pm
Angry Mum,
It seems that your keyboard keeps locking as your message reads in both upper case and lower case.
I know that by speaking to the credit card company you will not be able to stop payments as we tried and they insisted that even with a closed account they’ll still pay any money that is requested.
I found the helpline incredibly helpful and efficient. You’ll have to try another tactic, not sure what though.
June 1st, 2007 at 9:27 am
BILL.MS.NET for £39/99
and
MICROSOFT ONLINE SVCS HTTP://BILL.M IRL for £60.99 have both been taken off my credit card. I don’t own an xbox but I let my brother re-subscribe to xbox live with it (which should have been £40.00) but I don’t understand why two payments have been taken off. :S
June 15th, 2007 at 9:31 pm
can anyone tell me how we cancel s subscription for hotmail - tried the above tel no. but all would tell us that it was nothing to do with them as it was a hotmail subscription. i think michael is very insulting to our dog with his above comment - the person concerned wasn’t that bright!! michael’s mum
June 16th, 2007 at 7:56 pm
Hi,
To cancel a chargeable Hotmail subscription you need to log onto your Hotmail account. I think from there I went into ‘options’ and the rest was easy. It’s hard to remember exactly, as once you unsubscribe the option is no longer available to check on. Providing you find the option though it’s no trouble and it will be cancelled immediately.
I later followed up with a phone call to the company that everyone is complaining about and they couldn’t have been more helpful. They confirmed cancellation and when I checked credit card statements it all seems in order.
Dozey.
June 22nd, 2007 at 6:04 pm
I have also just been charged £149.49 for some points that i know nothing about. £149.49 in 2 days!!! I have phoned xbox 360 and they claimed at first that they knew nothing about it and after about 1 hour on the phone and me giving details over and over again, they informed me that apparently thousands of points had been bought and 16 games bought with these points in 2 days!!! They have also refused to refund the money.
I have no idea what to do and will appreciate ANY suggestions, PLEASE!!!
July 11th, 2007 at 6:18 pm
how can i cancel the £4.99/month subscription to xbox live? ive sold the machine! its impossible to get through to them!
July 22nd, 2007 at 11:54 am
since my last post in May (fingers still crossed) no more nasty surprises on my credit card statement! I sympathise with Angry mum and wish her all the best. I realise the so-called helpline is a pain, but persevere until you get someone to promise they’ll cancel this damned thing, and GET THEIR NAME that might provide a better result. Good Luck
July 27th, 2007 at 10:33 am

August 17th, 2007 at 5:05 pm
Had to do the detective work myself as had the Bill.Ms.Net 1800 469 9269 appear on my Visa bill for £4.25 taken on 26 July and 27 July. Thanks for this I’ve managed to work out it is my son’s Xbox but he says he didn’t think I’d be charged every month. Rang the phone number as above and not particularly helpful person wouldn’t cancel it cos I didn’t know the security questions as my son set them - just wait til he gets home…. before finding this site I phoned Barlclaycard to cancel my card….!!
August 17th, 2007 at 5:39 pm
Angry Mum,
Cancelling your credit card will not stop payments unless the subscription is cancelled. The credit card company are still obliged to continue payments as requested.
August 18th, 2007 at 11:43 am
I had £14.99 charged to my credit card with the reference Bill,Ms.Net, 866 672 4551 and I have no idea what it is for - any ideas please???
August 19th, 2007 at 8:50 pm
I just saw this same thing on my card!!!! €6.99 BILLS.MS.NET. Thanks for putting this blog up cause I had no idea what it was. I don’t even use my XBOX anymore and had no idea I would be automaticaly charged for renewal!!! Thanks Microsoft, as if €70 a game isn’t enough to ask from customers
August 19th, 2007 at 10:05 pm
my son has now cancelled the ‘credit’ facility item off his Xbox via the Xbox so I’ll be keeping a close eye on my next visa bill to see if it has worked! Also, Visa have said they will refund the 2 lots of £4.25 cos at the time I didn’t know what it was (don’t tell them that i do now!!) LOL…! I’d like to give my thanks to the person who started this blog.
August 27th, 2007 at 8:45 pm
Hi
Just wanted to come on & say thanks to the person who started this thread.
My hubby called me to look at our online banking which showed a debit of £39.99 for bills.ms.net I typed it in google & found this.
It turn’s out to be x-box renewal but as he hasn’t used this facility in a year (due to new baby) & the fact that you can no longer get new games for the x-box there is no way we want to renew our subscription.
I think it is wrong that this is AUTOMATIC you sould be asked if you want to renew at least & after reading through some of the stories I can’t believe all this has been going on & watchdog haven’t covered this story.
I would advise Angry mum or other’s who aren’t getting any joy to contact the CAB Citizens Advice Bureau who will be able to tell you your rights & what you can do (& tell you what laws apply - great for freaking out companies!)
Hope that helps & Thank you again.

Hi Matt
You wait until your’s is on the move!
Mine is now 14 months & crawling at supersonic speed & can only be described as a stunt baby.
He thows himself off of everything head first & still doesn’t learn. LOL
He is fantastic & all the entertainment you could possibly need - Tee Hee Hee
One bit of advice get yourself a helium baloon (£1.37 from Asda blown up) & put it on a wrist wrattle & around your baby’s wrist when laying flat or on an ankle when sitting in a bouncer & watch as he/she realise’s that they control it (they go mad kicking & moving arms, checking which one is conrtolling the baloon) It teach’s coordination & makes them aware they can control what happens.
(I got this out of a Mirium Stoppard Book, I would of never dreamt that a 8 week old baby would pay attention but all of them loved it - I go to baby groups & we all tried it - Also it keeps them occupied for HOURS - Great for if you are trying to cook dinner or while you are changing them.)
Congratulations & let me know how you get on with the baloon
Carla

Emirham,
I have already posted a reply to Angry Mum explaining that by simply cancelling your credit card will not stop these charges. The credit company has an agreement to still honour any requests whilst membership is still in place.
You MUST cancel the membership to stop all charges, I called on the above telephone number in April and it was cancelled succesfully in less than one minute. I also had on-line comfirmation of termination of contract.
Good luck!

A charge of £14.99 annually from Bill.Ms.Net need not be for Xbox, since this is the annual charge for Windows Live Hotmail Plus with an extra 10Gb of storage for emails.
September 4th, 2007 at 2:19 pm
Noel,
I have explained Hotmail Plus many times but some refuse to believe that they are being charged correctly.
I had agreed to Hotmail Plus but canncelled it after a couple of years and a charges were stopped immediately.

i’ve just looked at my credit card statement and £17 had been taken out, my boyfriend has an xbox but everything has been set up in his name with his bank cards. i only use my card for emergency food shopping so i dont know how they got my details.

I have just discovered that my son (13) has been purchasing X box live points without my knowledge, to the value of £21.25
However I was not made aware when I signed up for the Xbox live monthly subscription, that this credit card number could be used for other purchases. It doesn’t make this clear in the terms and conditions which I checked at the time and have checked again.
This is a scandalous arrangement/con that Microsoft have concocted.
You should, as the credit card holder, have the option to bar any other services purchases at sign up.
Microsoft helpline was sort of helpful - at least I got thru quickly but they refused to refund the unauthorised transactions.
Naturally I have cancelled the monthly subs by removing the credit card details, rather than cancelling account and will make an annual payment next month then withdraw the credit card details again.
When I asked for an address to make a formal written complaint I was informed that it had to be done by phone. This is unacceptable business policy.
Anyone have a snail mail address for Xbox live?

I just got off the phone to the most useless customer service since bulldog! apparently I dont even have an account with XBOX live yet they still take money from my account monthly?? hmmm thats why I gave you your own payment reference and you still couldn’t help then?? absolutely useless I will never have an account with these inbreds again! how much was the PS 3 again?

Well, I’ve just checked my statement, and have been charged twice £39.99 by:
BILL.MS.NET
LUXEMBOURG
The first one makes sense, as around the date (on the day even) I had renewed my live subscription for a year. However the other fee is there too. I had previously allowed the account to “end” as I changed cards and figured I didn’t use live any more (till halo 3).
After phoning MS I got some response that as they had tried to take money out before, that had gone through as well when i updated the payment options, even though I hadn’t been using it, and the money is up-front not a pay at the end of the 12 months thing.
So am about to phone my bank and see if there is anything I can do. The line to MS was pretty rubbish which didn’t help, when you need help the last thing you want is someone shouting down the line as otherwise you can’t hear them!

Pt.2
I have now phoned my bank (Barclays) - they saw the two payments, but could only give me a contact number…which turned out to be the xbox support number. At least I know that the charges are genuine!
So, I’ve called back, thankfully a less crackly line this time and a different person. I explained that the bank had acknowledged these two transactions, and that I’d been told to call them back if they (xbox) didn’t sort something out.
The support asked me to email a copy of the statement, and they will call back within a week, and hopefully sort out a refund.
I’ll try to keep this updated with whats going on.

My thanks to the person setting up this websight. Same thing happened to me ,i purchased a few credits for xbox live gaming and did not notice the small but frequent withdrawals on my credit card after the credis ran out .Also the BILL.MS.NET is a way of avoiding CLOSE scrutiny on your statment by having it appear as a bank charge. I HAVE YET TO STOP THESE PAYMENTS AND DO NOT YET KNOW HOW DIFFICULT IT WILL BE I WILL ADD A POST HERE TO UPDATE LATER having rung the 0800 587 1102 tel no posted on this web site..But i am going to get rid of my sons xbox and go over to the competition a SONY PLAYSTATION and i would like to see all the people who have been subjected to this rip off do the same. i used to think that all the slagging off of microsoft in the media was just politics .but now i can see that one of the worlds leading companies is just one greedy son of a bitch.
thanks again for setting up this site.
regards mb

I don’t really have anything to add to this topic, I just wanted to have the 100th comment
Thanks to everybody for all their posts which have helped thousands of visitors to resolve their Microsoft issues over the past 15 months.

Well, just a small update.
It’s now been a week. I heard nothing from the MS support.
So a little earlier I phoned my bank and have started the ball rolling on disputing one of the charges. Will keep you guys updated on whether the dispute is successfull.
My concern is, after going through all this, regardless of being successfull or not, will the same thing happen again next year?!?!

I thought it was my sons buying things online for their xbox when i noticed payments had been taken from my bank account as card payments.Microsoft are a big rip off when it comes to paying by card.I phoned their helpline and was told that because i was not online for x amount of months and decided to go back online that for the months that it was offline they have charged me for it because it states that in the disclaimer.i have now told them to cancel everything and i want confirmation of this as there is no other way of stopping it unless i get a new card and never do another payment online.i recommend to get a prepayment card and dont risk paying online. If it was not for the fact my boys used xbox they could shove it where the sun dont shine.

MY GRANDSON HAS AN XBOX 360. I LET HIM GO LIVE USING MY DEBIT CARD. 4 POUNDS PER MONTH IS NO PROBLEM. AFTER A FEW DAYS HE COULD NO LONGER ACCESS IT FOR SOME REASON. THIS WAS 4 MONTHS AGO. BUT BILLS.MS.NET ARE STILL TAKING THE MONEY FROM MY ACCOUNT. WHO DO I GET IN TOUCH WITH TO GET THESE PAYMENTS STOPPED OR THE CONNECTION PROBLEM SORTED OUT.

Update time:
I just received a letter through from my bank, they have credited me the £39.99 MS took from me. The letter states it could be another 4-6 weeks before the case is closed, and if I haven’t heard from them in that time all is well.
It’s reassuring to know that in the event of MS not playing ball when you call them over a fair amount of money they’ve taken (either by accident or dodgy wording in their TOS) that the bank is on your side.
I’d suggest if you haven’t already done so, any people that have had money taken out for unknown reasons, and they really are sure it’s nothing legit, that they contact your bank. My faith in Barclays has been restored a little today!

Hi,
Still having trouble with Microsoft. I’ve just spend 1/2 an hour on the phone. They have confirmed that back in March I did phone to cancel subscription which they did in April 07. But they didn’t cancel my credit card details as I asked. They have now told me that someone (WASN’T ME OR A FAMILY MEMBER) took out a new subscription and microsoft points during May. Some amounts were paid to them and the later ones declined because I had the credit card company put a stop against their payments. They now say I still owe them money for subscription up to now, even though my son has been using a Prepaid Card from Game for months.
I asked them why I would ask for Subscription to be stopped and payment block in place to start a new subscription and they just said someone must have access to your card.
I mentioned about the media reports of hackers because none of the points have been used and they said they didn’t know what I was talking about it couldn’t happen. This has cost me £100 on my credit card for fees and unauthorised transactions. The credit card company haven’t been of any use.
Argh!!!

Folks, the only solution is to:
1 Ring the Bank and file a formal dispute. This is the only way to get your money back.
2. The bank will reissue you a new credit card and numder.
3. If the charge appears on the new card. Repeat steps 1 and 2 until this stops.
I am speaking from experience here.
