So surprise surprise England didn’t pull off a big performance after four terrible lackluster games in the world cup quarter finals run up and lost when it mattered most… on penalties… again. For a team of men earning a combined annual income higher than most major African nations’ education budgets it’s really not on.

I still think we’d be better off picking a team of Nationwide Conference players (Stevenage Borough please!). They’d at least know how to work as a co-ordinated unit, rather than individuals with egos bigger than their teamwork skills. Becks please resign as captain, and Ferdinand don’t do any more ‘beadle-esque’ TV shows because now ‘you’ve been merc’d yourself’ (whatever that means).

I did bet on Portgual to beat England 3-1… because they have Gene Hackman managing them and we all know what Lex Luthor was capable of. I would have won £80 (2 at 40-1) if it hadn’t have been ’secretly’ placed over 90 minutes only (which I swear changes as and when totesport feel like it benefits them most). Still, I’ve got Portugal in the work sweepstake at £5 a pop (so 50+ prize I guess?) and also £1 on them to win outright at 20-1 so I’ll be cheering Hackman on to the BIG win. I’m glad Ronaldinho’s out with Brazil, I was sick of trying to guess whether he was smiling or not.
