It might be a bit rough around the edges compared to the mainstream Hollywood Bowl chain that lives in our main cities and new towns, but the Horsham Superbowl, situated in Horsham park, is certainly value for money. Last night ‘Suzie Q’ and I went with some visiting Antipodean family and discovered the ‘three games for £6 per person’ Thursday night deal. That’s more than 50% cheaper than the Hollywood Bowl in Crawley (would cost £12.60). There were a few downsides however, the main one being the lack of air conditioning - so it was almost as hot as the tube, which meant the ball would slip out of your hand and go down the lane the wrong way (or at least that was my excuse!).
In addition to the heat, the scoring monitor was broken, it flickered wildly so was unreadable over the lane (had to look at the one in the seating area). The toilets would also have looked more at home in a nightclub and we had a bit of an incident where one of our older bowlers put his foot onto the lane as he bowled and fell backwards smacking his head on the floor. He was OK after a couple of minutes and to be fair there were signs up saying ‘do not walk on the VERY slippery lanes’. I did wonder why the foot fault buzzers didn’t work on any lanes though.
The usual arcade machines were available as per most bowling alleys, and I found one of the ‘grab a soft toy’ machines which guaranteed a prize for a £1 - another bargain. Managed to win Suzie Q a nice little pink dog on a key ring with my first go - who needs ‘play until you win’
