Lunch at Konstam, Kings Cross Road

by @ 3:05 pm. Blogged under Eating and Drinking

Konstam Restaurant‘Konstam at the Prince Albert’ was the chosen lunch venue for Friday as suggested by Fink Angel. This new restaurant on the Kings Cross Road is run by leading chef Oliver Rowe. With a menu of ingredients all sourced from inside London’s M25 motorway it seems like a bit of a gimmick. I’m not sure he’s quite managed to stick to his M25 rule with mains on offer such as ’Stansted Duck’ and ‘Seven Oaks Beef Steak’ - both towns were outside the M25 the last time I looked at a map. However, it has to be better than seeing ‘Heathrow Swan’ on offer so we’ll forgive him for some slight mileage variations. There wasn’t enough time for starters because we were locked out for ten minutes past their advertised 12:30pm opening so I missed out on trying the wood pigeon. However, the main course was well worth the extra few minutes walk from the office.

I’m no super chef but I do eat out quite a bit and when something is good to eat I know about it. My main course at Konstam was fabulous, the minted lamb was sweet and tender, I couldn’t get enough of the accompanying runner beans and boiled potatoes. With wine and bread etc. you’re looking at a £25 lunch without starters or desserts (we ran out of time) - not overly priced though for the quality of the food - just bear it in mind if you’re running low on cash and expecting a £7.95 Steak Sandwich to be on offer… this isn’t the place. ;-)

Konstam Kings CrossWhen we finally got into the restaurant it was empty because it had only just been opened for the nine of us, but it filled up a bit whilst we were eating. The decor has a sort of ‘chichester harbour in London’ feel to it - wooden panels painted in aquamarine, large glass decorations hang from the ceiling with drapes of what looked like bath plug chains hanging down. The kitchen is open plan and takes up the length of one wall of the restaurant, this is quite refreshing - you can see and smell your food being prepared.

For more photos and views I’d recommend reading Fink Angel’s Konstam review.

    I should have had the lamb… :(

Thanks for the review, glad you liked the food. The M25 limit has been imposed by others. I only ever suggest it as a rule of thumb. Our remit has always been a radius equivelent to the extent of the tube network. It gives us a little bit more leeway and occasionally we do take small liberties.
Apologies to FinkAngel for the speed of service. Not something I’d like to think was usual.

I had lunch at Konstam again yesterday with an American colleague. We only had time for a main course but the lamb shank was delicious, even accompanied by an extra bit of lamb - very generous :-)
