Renewable Energy - Switch to npower Juice

by @ 1:48 pm. Blogged under Philanthropy, Living and Dying

Wind TurbineThe price of electricity with Scottish Power seems to have gone a bit crazy of late, so I thought I’d revisit uswitch.com’s online comparison service to see how much money we could save on the annual household gas and electricity bill elsewhere. The answer was - not a lot, but what I did come across was the ‘npower Juice’ deal with Greenpeace. Switch to that plan and in exchange for every unit of electricity you use, npower will feed the same amount of electricity from renewable sources (wind, tidal and solar) into the electricity network.

Although you don’t get electricity from renewalable energy sources yourself, somebody else in the UK will do so in exchange. This sounded eco-friendly to me so I’ve switched us over, there’s no point moaning about global warming if we’re not willing to make some changes ourselves. It’s estimated that this switch will reduce annual CO2 emissions from my household by three tonnes, and will save a whopping £3 on the annual household bill! I’m less concerned about the latter, if I’m no worse off and the world is better off it seems a no-brainer.

npower and Greenpeace have also created a fund to assist the development of projects in other renewable energy fields. It’s called the ‘Juice fund’ and npower will make an additional annual contribution of £10 for every customer that stays with Juice.

It took me about five minutes to make the change through uSwitch, and there’ll just be one or two bits of paperwork to deal with to complete the transfer. I strongly recommend you make the small effort too.

That’s a nice of you, Matt. We have the same thing here except it costs us extra to be green, which makes me think that they don’t really want us to participate!

Its a shame the Government doesn’t fund extra advertising of this service/utility because I am sure a lot more people would ‘Switch’! Come on peop’s…!?
