After a few drinks on Saturday night in ‘Ray and May’s English Bar‘ (a Liverpool FC shrine beside our hotel), we headed off to Hed Kandi at El Divino by around 2am. We were tiring a bit after the 5am arrival earlier that morning, but as we´d bought tickets online we thought we best make the effort to use them (30 Euros each). Luckily, in the street, we came across a Mexican couple seeking a taxi to El Divino too, split the cost from San Antonio bay to Ibiza Town with them.
El Divino is right beside the sea at Puerto Ibiza Nueva and has all manner of small and large yachts moored alongside the harbour, reminded me quite a lot of St Tropez. We were greeted on the door by the usual friendly transvestite ‘ticket checker’ and proceeded inside to see what we would make of the Hed Kandi DJ. The more avid blog reader will remember that we spent most of the Global Gathering night in the Hed Kandi tent, the music at El Divino was even better though. Best tune of the night was a remix of “China in Your Hand” - originally by T’Pau (or so Suzie_Q informed me).
The general atmosphere in the club was good, nice and uplifting, the male to female ratio was about 70/30 we thought. No trouble though, only got asked if I was selling Ecstacy once which was a nice result - obviously I’m doing something to finally shake that image (not sure what it says about my dancing!).
Thought it was much like a clubbing experience at the Zap or Honeyclub in Brighton with two differences; firstly semi-naked male and female professional dancers who COULD dance, secondly bottles of water were super expensive at 8 euros for 330mls. Five litres costs 1.50 Euros in the local supermarket, at the same rate as El Divino the price should be a staggering 121 Euros / £81 (see right). Strangely alcohol isn’t much more expensive than water.
Left the club at around 6am, couldn´t flag a taxi but discovered that this was because there was an official taxi queue around the corner outside Pacha and the Taxi drivers stick to the rules. Bumped into our Mexican travelling friends again on the way to the taxi rank so split the fare home to our hotel with them again - Result.
