So in the early hours of Friday morning it was time to visit Cream at Amnesia in what we hoped would be a much better clubbing experience than the disappointing Gatecrasher @ Eden, and oh how much better it was! Amnesia is a massive nightclub that manages to pull off two large rooms with a great atmosphere, so many people just enjoying their music and not simply ‘on the pull’. It was pretty packed, getting space to dance in the main room to see Ferry Corsten or Paul Van Dyk was a bit tricky; Suzie_Q and I managed to perch ourselves on the corner of a stage beside a Spanish girl sat dealing her wares without so much as a care in the world… quite inconsiderate as she was taking up vital dancing space.
For the most part we stayed in the second room (the Terrace) which had more space to dance and featured tunes more to our personal tastes (the Shapeshifters apparently). Ferry and Paul were getting pretty deep into banging house in the main room when we left at 6am. I loved the ice sprays which shot out quickly across the writhing dance floor in perfect time with each big musical build up to a huge roar of appreciation from the masses. We didn’t spot Paris Hilton who does like to frequent this fine establishment according to the Cream website.
Getting into Amnesia cost us around 40 Euros each (prebooked) on the door it would have been 60 Euros - which included a free drink. It’s not cheap to get drunk at Amnesia - a Vodka and Lemonade and a Jack Daniels and Coke cost me 28 Euros (£18). Amnesia also broke El Divino’s water price too at 9 euros for 330 mls (or 136 Euros / £91 for five litres). I know I’m getting a bit water obsessed but I just don’t see how these clubs can justify charging so much for something so cheap when they know people have to drink water to stay cool. However, go to Amnesia already drunk and armed with a bit of cash to burn on water and you’ll have a fabulous night.
