‘Konstam at the Prince Albert’ was the chosen lunch venue for Friday as suggested by Fink Angel. This new restaurant on the Kings Cross Road is run by leading chef Oliver Rowe. With a menu of ingredients all sourced from inside London’s M25 motorway it seems like a bit of a gimmick. I’m not sure he’s quite managed to stick to his M25 rule with mains on offer such as ’Stansted Duck’ and ‘Seven Oaks Beef Steak’ - both towns were outside the M25 the last time I looked at a map. However, it has to be better than seeing ‘Heathrow Swan’ on offer so we’ll forgive him for some slight mileage variations. There wasn’t enough time for starters because we were locked out for ten minutes past their advertised 12:30pm opening so I missed out on trying the wood pigeon. However, the main course was well worth the extra few minutes walk from the office. (more…)
Bagleys nightclub in Kings Cross has transformed itself into a Roller Disco, and not a cheesy one either. On Thursday night £10 gets you entry and skate hire, taking you into the first room to swap your shoes and skate to some funky disco music. The last (and only) time I went Roller Skating was in Welwyn Garden City on a date with Helen Brown… aged 13 - and I had to take my yonger sister along (weird). That place was a bit cheesy, Bagleys Roller Disco however is basically nightclubbing on wheels. The bouncers search you on the way in but ‘checking for food or water’ apparently, I did ask if people taking drugs and skating was a major problem but was told by ‘the big guy’ that ‘it’s just food that is’. So for a good few years we’ve known that the weather influences people’s search engine behaviour; when the temperature rises in summer, searches for ‘air conditioning systems’ increase. Conversely when the temperature drops below average in winter – these searches decrease in favour of ‘heating systems’. In addition, it doesn’t take a genius to surmise that when it’s sunny outside nobody wants to sit in front of a computer screen surfing or xboxing – most of us would rather be out enjoying the sunshine. It’s hardly surprising then that the months of June and July, with their record heat, saw record low online purchasing activity in most sectors (air con and water coolers excluded of course). (more…)
It’s strange how life goes, one week you’re watching greyhound racing and debating whether it’s a cruel sport, the next week somebody you know wants to visit a dog rehoming open-day. On Sunday afternoon, whilst recovering from the Global Gathering hangover, Suzie_Q and I went with some of my relatives to the Evesham Dogs Trust centre (which is also home to Cat Protection). Here they have cats and dogs that need homes; having been brought in by owners no longer able to cope, on behalf of owners who have passed away, or animals found roaming free / abandoned. At first I did wonder whether some of the Global Gathering ‘massif’ had been posting stickers around the place, but maybe I have my ‘Charlies’ confused again… (more…)
