There are five curry houses in and around Dorking, the worst of which we have found to be Red Chilli on the A24 (formerly a Little Chef - very watery kormas). Thankfully the best one ‘Dorking Brasserie’ is the finest curry house for some miles (rivalled only by ‘Golden Curry’ in Reigate). I strongly advise sampling their Chicken Korma with its tender pieces of chicken and wonderfully flavoured sauce. The Brasserie even offer ‘Weight Watchers’ low-calorie curries if you’re eating out (or taking-away) with a diet-crazy friend.
Last night I let Suzie_Q do the ordering in exchange for me paying (or ‘cooking’ as the payee is allowed to call it). She struggled a bit to get her name understood, repeating it four times… but that all adds to the experience and their staff are very friendly. When I arrived to pick up our take-away (which later tasted great as usual) I had a short wait. “Mr Sue!” came the cry up the restaurant as one of the Indian waiters rushed up with my bag of food. I couldn’t be bothered to correct him, “Yes I’m Mr Sue” I said, as I stood to take the bag from him. I hope not too many of the diners thought I had undergone some kind of sex change.

But don’t go to the Dorking Brasserie if you’re a guide dog owner like me, you won’t be admitted.
New curry garden is close by, and I very much enjoy eating there.

I have been visiting Red Chilli regularly for over a year and offer a contradictory opinion. I have found the food and the service to be excellent. Any dishes not on the menu ask and they will prepare it. Good value for money, but sometimes be prepared for a little wait for the take away on a busy Friday and Saturday evening. I strongly recommend the Tikka Massala dishes - delicious!

I think they blow ‘hot and cold’ at Red Chilli (excuse the pun!) we went there soon after it opened and it was fabulous, good sevice, nice decor and food etc. On returning two months later we were very disappointed - service was slow, the curry arrived like watery soup (yet was the same dish as ordered on the previous visit). I had to complain it was so bad, the waiter offered me a free alcoholic drink… hardly the greatest offering when your guests will have to drive back down the A24 dual-carriageway. It is probably due another visit for a fuller review anyway.

I went in there last night, after 2 years of driving past thinking I must try it one day, and found it to be excellent. Even a quip from the waiter about getting me some mints when all three things I ordered were garlic dishes! I only have the one visit to base my finding on, but April 29th 2007 it was EXCELLENT!

That’s a great story Mr Sue. I have to say that the Dorking Brasserie for me is the best of the bunch. Shame about Tony and his dog, I’m very surprised they did not allow him in. I’ve had meals at the Red Chilli, the New Curry Garden and others in the town but the DB is always excellent. I’ll agree with Matt, the Red Chilli is always a gamble, sometimes great, sometimes pretty average. I have been in there on a busy Sat night waiting for a takeaway and seen unhappy customers walk out! When I got my takeaway (after about 20 mins) one customer jokingly said “I think I’ll phone in and order a takeaway to my table, it may be quicker”. And the NCG had ok food but very little atmosphere. The Dorking Brasserie - always excellent.
