Last Thursday saw my colleagues and I take a trip to Karaoke Box ‘Dai Chan’ in Soho. Based in Frith Street, just off Old Compton Street, Karaoke Box is a 5-minute walk from Leicester Square tube station. I’ve been there for a sing-along a few times in the past year and had some good fun. I was therefore quite surprised when I looked up the phone number on a directory website and found a reviewer complaining about the staff. I’ve never had occasion to take a dislike to them and indeed, when I called to make this reservation two weeks ago, I received the best telephone customer service that I can remember.
Essentially a party of would-be singers hires a room for up to ten or twelve people, complete with Karaoke machine, touch-screen music selector and wireless microphones. The cost for room hire is around £50 an hour (give or take a few quid) and everybody has to purchase at least one drink (beer or wine). I’ve not been anywhere else for this kind of small group Karaoke session but so far haven’t had cause to look elsewhere. I can recommend a trip here, even if like me you’re saying (like I was a year ago) “I’ll go but I’m not singing!”… you can see how that turned out a year on - secretly filmed Englebert footage.
