When, in November, Suzie_Q and I finally set a January date for our wedding, we thought it would take a little while to get pregnant. There are entire books devoted to fertility treatment, dos and don’ts, life style changes etc. However, it would seem that Suzie_Q and I are just plain lucky, falling pregnant on our very first attempt. We didn’t exactly expect it to be so easy - I’m all in favour of the ‘practice makes perfect’ mantra… thankfully we will at least have been married for six months when junior arrives! On Friday morning we headed to the anti-natal department at East Surrey hospital for the first ultrasound scan.
There was a big old queue of people waiting for ultrasounds, the happy receptionist kept loudly telling all her colleagues about how overbooked the system had been. We finally got our turn some forty minutes later than our appointment, Suzie_Q’s belly kindly covered in lubricant for the scanner - “We warm it up with this machine so it’s not a cold shock” said the ultrasound operator. I was tempted to suggest they simply give each couple a bottle to hold for forty minutes on arrival while they are waiting to actually get seen, but I held my tongue.
I’ve seen a fair few ultrasound photos over the years, to me they’ve always looked pretty blurry, a shape here and there - often as clear as magic eye pictures. I have to say that the scan itself is completely different, the photographs are more like a visual reminder for the happy couple of the more detailed view that was seen. It’s quite incredible to see little hands, feet, a head and a beating heart at just twelve weeks, our final on screen view was of what looked like an alien from the X-Files waving at us (right). Thankfully all measurements are fine, no identified problems and next visit due in another ten weeks. I’d like to find out the sex next time, but Suzie_Q doesn’t want to know - boy or girl we’re certainly looking at long legs (see the top left corner of the top right photo)!

Actually Matt this is a response to your 20 week ultrasound log. I’m using my RM Laptop and it wont let me read the rest of it because of its pornagraphic content . My goodness what is on there? I think it might be to do with the satanic references. Anyway I have a 100% correct prediction record. Here is how you will know. Shut your eyes Suzi Q if you don’t want to know. Right, if Suzi Q’s bum is growing abnormally large its a boy. If her bum is remaining its fairly normal shape, and the baby is all up front it’s a girl OK? Trust me .
