We were obviously very disappointed that we didn’t get a phone call from a researcher this week offering us tickets to ‘Making Your Mind Up‘ on BBC1 tonight. Two of my colleagues did get tickets, but neither of them wanted to go anyway so those went unused (non transferrable). Having tuned into BBC1 tonight to watch the show from the comfort of our living room, it did seem to be a bit of a farcical show from a voting perspective; after the first round of telephone voting Terry Wogan announced that Big Brovaz were going home in favour of a French woman called Cyndi - the studio audience were shocked, Suzie_Q and I were sitting stunned on the sofa. At the end of the final round of voting Terry announced that Cyndi was the winner to much cheering and indoor firework exploding, whilst Ferne Cotton had to tell him (and us) that the winners were actually Scooch and try and reverse the out of control situation.
Scooch - a re-formed 90s band comprising of two girls (one a local lass from Purley) and two guys, did a very camp pop performance ‘Flying the Flag‘ whilst dressed as air stewards. It was quite Eurotrashy, I’d liken it most to Aqua’s ‘Barbie Girl’ but with plenty of doublentendres thrown into the lyrics such as “Would you like something to suck on landing Sir?” and “Would you like some salted nuts Sir?”. In the crazy world of Eurovision it’s probably in with a good chance for the cheese factor, however, I am pretty suspicious about the early departure of Big Brovaz which was a pretty damn good track. Brian Harvey made an appearance singing a song completely off-key whilst looking like he’d escaped from a mental ward with a partially shaved head. I know the guy’s had problems of late, and I myself own a lovely collector’s edition holographic East 17 album, but somebody should have said ‘Hang on Brian… that’s just awful you can’t be serious’.
The worst discovery of all was that Eurovision takes place on May 12th, I’d been intending to throw a Eurovision party but it seems we have a wedding to attend that day so that’s me missing all the fun for the second year running. I guess I’ll just have to settle for recording it and watching it the following day without the power of voting.

Bryan, LMAO! Welcome back and boy, what a come back. Not! Is he still on crack? “Yeah, I’ll do that song, that’ll get me rep up!” Big Brovaz, great track and damn those girls can sing, but this isn’t top 40, this is eurovision and they can’t compete with the cheese of scooch - true eurovision bounce, think vengaboys but even worse and the great thing is we’re destined to lose with that song - massive amounts of money passed behinds the scenes for scooch to win that instead of Cyndi - who sung a timeless classic, it was a beautiful heart felt song which, may not have won, but at least it would have finished within the top 5, a lot higher than schooh. Stick on a venga boys album, we like to party I’d recommend, if you’re feelin’ the eurotrash beat of scooch, alternatively wait for them to finish bottom of the pile on May 12th, along with Daz Sampson. I think there’s a lesson here - stop opening it up for the UK to vote, they don’t understand the euopean market; it differs drastically, let some Sony A&R nominate the singer and song. Oh ah… I wanna know right now… will you be my eurovision, girl.
