Having recently discovered artist father and daughter Stan and Georgia Peskett I’m beginning to wonder if I should have pursued my art studies beyond my GCSE A-grade. Initially I started A-level Art & Design but when the first semester (at a different consortium school) turned out to be ‘Basic Photography’ I dropped the subject because I’d just spent two years on GCSE Photography… the UK & US Politics lessons I chose instead regrettably bored me to tears. Stan and Georgia Peskett are both contemporary artists - and very successful from the look of their biographies (lots of exhibitions and works produced).
Stan Peskett was born in Epsom and attended the Epsom School of Art (a fellow student was David Hockney), now sixty eight years old (by my calculations) his website says he is ‘currently mural/easel painting and teaching in San Francisco and Mendocino County, California’. Stan’s daughter Georgia (forty-two) also attended the Epsom School of Art and Design to develop a contemporary oil painting style which is pretty damn good. Both artists have painted lots of pictures of London, presumably because Georgia was born in Notting Hill Gate, not sure why both have also chosen to paint New York scenes too.
In November of this year Georgia will be showing some of her works at the Contemporary Art Gallery ‘Cosa’ - no surprise that she has chosen a gallery in her home neighbourhood, with a bit of luck perhaps my wife and I will find some time to attend and check out the Peskett talents.
