On Saturday morning, with a baby to send off to sleep, I popped down to Dorking Museum to see the long awaited Dalek which is featuring as part of the Doctor Who exhibition. Not the most mind-blowing Dr Who exhibit I ever came across; a collection of old toys and memorabilia in a large glass cabinet, as well as costumes which had seen better days (from the old episodes of the 1980s). No cybermen - just lots of monsters I didn’t recognise - nothing that would pass for special effects these days! However - for an entry fee of just £1 you can’t really go wrong, especially taking into account what else is on exhibit at Dorking museum.
One of the things I found most interesting wasn’t the Dr Who costume exhibit at all, but the complete history of bombs, planes and pilots which fell on and around Dorking during World War Two. Indeed it seems a bomb fell on my mother-in-law’s road in Westcott (a small village outside Dorking) destroying four houses and killing nine people. On the whole this was one of the most devastating attacks on the area with the majority of bombs and V2s falling in fields or not even exploding. I’m wondering whether the sites of two downed German aircraft still carry any scars or wreckage - might have a look one day.
After looking at the two stuffed Dorking Cocks on show in a glass cabinet, as well as quite a few other stuffed birds in cabinets, I was given a short tour of the historic Dorking schooling and children’s toys area by a lovely employee of the museum. I’m sure she must have had to tell the same stories for years but still did so with much enthusiasm. It was a pity that Maria was too sleepy and too unintelligent (at present) to take any of it in - I look forward to the day her brain becomes a sponge and the questions begin.

Yes, and it may be a good idea to give her a test too, on what she has seen, after such a visit lol

Must tell John you took interest in the doctor! He’ll be sooooo pleased!!! But I bet is not as good as the one we’ve seen (and you two missed) in Cardiff, during that time where you and your now wife were single young and free! lol
See you soon??? Can’t wait to see Maria again, I am sure is looking a lot bigger! Laters INNIT!

Shows what you know Nephew. Your daughter’s brain is already a sponge, and she is certainly NOT unintelligent just because she can’t yet share her views with you through coherent verbal dialogue. You just have to be patient. Shame on you!

Well she doesn’t do herself any favours, yesterday as I wheeled her around Woolworths she was making the noise of a moron in a straight jacket… people sure did stare and this time without saying ‘ahh isn’t she lovely’

She was telling you it wasn’t up market enough for someone of her discerning tastes. Do you know NOTHING?
