It might be a bit rough around the edges compared to the mainstream Hollywood Bowl chain that lives in our main cities and new towns, but the Horsham Superbowl, situated in Horsham park, is certainly value for money. Last night ‘Suzie Q’ and I went with some visiting Antipodean family and discovered the ‘three games for £6 per person’ Thursday night deal. That’s more than 50% cheaper than the Hollywood Bowl in Crawley (would cost £12.60). There were a few downsides however, the main one being the lack of air conditioning - so it was almost as hot as the tube, which meant the ball would slip out of your hand and go down the lane the wrong way (or at least that was my excuse!).
I spent much of the past weekend staying with friends in Cardiff. A trip had been on the agenda for some time, so it was time to pull off the M4 at junction 29 instead of going straight past Cardiff to some other area of Wales. Got up early on Saturday (well early for me is anything before 11am as I’m usually hung over). I nearly fainted because it wasn’t raining outside (all my other Wales trips have featured A LOT of rain). Had a lovely traditional English breakfast at an Italian cafe around the corner and then headed off through the park for a tour of Cardiff’s Millennium Stadium.

I quite enjoy a flutter on the dogs every once in a while, I don’t usually win much because the odds are so appalling but it’s a bit of fun and usually a good night out. On Saturday I went to Brighton and Hove stadium for the second time this year, this time not on the £10 meal, drink, entry and free bet deal but a £30 a head waited table deal. The view of the track couldn’t have been better ideal for watching the races and seeing which dog crosses the line first. (more…)
So the FIFA world cup is over but there really is no need to be sad, only a month to go before the new Premier League season kicks off on August 19th. One day after the wonderful Zidane treated us to his Rhino impression (what did the Italian player say to him after pinching his nipple to make him so crazy?) Budweiser fantasy football is back! I’ve already been in and picked my team twice, I dare say I’ll change it twice every day for the next 5 weeks.
So surprise surprise England didn’t pull off a big performance after four terrible lackluster games in the world cup quarter finals run up and lost when it mattered most… on penalties… again. For a team of men earning a combined annual income higher than most major African nations’ education budgets it’s really not on.
Went to Wimbledon today, was going to go on Monday (Day 1) but the weather was pretty terrible (only 45 minutes played all day). Was up at 5am ready to get the first train out of Dorking to Wimbledon (5:45am), in Wimbledon for about 6:15am, then the shuttle bus they put on outside the station to the tennis grounds for 6:30am. Walked about a mile to get to the end of the queue but just glad to get there in time to get a queue card (position 1089) which lets you know if you’ll get in or not.
