Web Traffic Analysis

Google WebstatsWe have a great deal of expertise in web traffic analysis – the use of online tracking tools to examine website visitor volumes and report on related trends. A knowledge of how many people are coming into a website, what they do when they get there and also what they don’t do are vital for any serious online business. We can assist companies with an examination of their data to produce confidential reports and advice to increase visitor durations and any online conversions.

For most people these days web traffic analysis means using a tool such as Google Analytics to run standard reports against all real-time visitor data – total pages views, unique visitors, referrers, geographic locations and more. Despite our reservations that Google is taking over the world(!) we quite like Google Analytics for the amount of sophisticated data it can offer on not just visitor volumes but also quality. The ability for Google Adwords (PPC) data to plug into Google Analytics E-commerce reporting is also an excellent reason for choosing to take the Analytics route.

We are experienced with more traditional (and less accurate) log-file analysis tools such as Web Trends, AWstats, Faststats and Webalizer. We don’t typically recommend log-file analysis because it can include inaccurate and inflated data from ‘robot’ generated traffic (search engines just reading pages), however in some cases one cannot historically do much about that and the data still provides sufficient trending information to help with traffic analysis.
